UTANI Inter Club Poomsae 2013

Another one for our new trophy cabinet.

SDTKD were delighted to send a team up to Belfast to the UTANI Inter Club Poomsae Championships event again this year, an event which has now proven to be our annual competitive finale. As always the set up & detail of the event was impeccable by our friends up north. Great to see the lads from Junsa Taekwondo also in attendance!

For the 1st time in 5 years, SDTKD were in a position to totally fund the whole entry of the whole team due to massive efforts of members and support from visiting clubs in recent times at our fundraiser event, the Dublin Open Poomsae Championships. No entry fees were paid by members, and we were able to put on a subsidized bus for all attending, players fare just €2.50 each way!

The team effort once again was brilliant, led for the 2nd week in a row by new Senior Black Belt. Ms. Pauline Martin, supported by members  Anas Belmaati, Mark Parsons, Terry O’Reilly, parent Edtya Slowinski, and many more.

Pauline & Jamilah helped out the organisers with some poomsae judging on the day, as well as competing & supporting our team. Official results can be found below, we recommend players take not of & absorb scores, and try improve on next time.

Feedback from Ms. Martin noted that a special word of note should go to the more novice C/D class players, with many putting in exceptiona performanced. Young Khaled Kourrini, 6,  on his debut was said to be excellent!

SDTKD picked up their 3rd first Place Team trophy in just 5 weeks, narrowly winning the event by just 2 points…. [ a reminder to those who didn’t manage to make it to mat for their division of the impact you can have on your TEAM standing!!]. That’s a total of 6 first place trophies in 2013, all the Irish Calendar events, and an International Poomsae 2nd place at the NI International Poomsae Championships last summer. Massive well done all!

Off the field of play, the event saw some excellent club enhancements used to ensure booking of event, parental consents and other critical player information were collated using our club website. This allowed for a much easier & stress free organisation for coaches on the day.

We had a de-briefing session about event on Monday 9th including all seniors & older children. Some lessons learned were tabled, and methods of avoiding any mis-haps were employed by Master Taaffe to ensure that all efforts of event from individuals is of ultimate benefit is of ultimate benefit to their TEAM mates.
