Paris Open 2016
South Dublin Taekwondo’s Jack Woolley returned to Paris to take care of some unfinished business. Last year jack was in Paris last year when a Taekwondo event was cancelled due to the terrible atrocities in the French Capital. One year later, and the French Taekwondo Federation regrouped and staged a fantastic World Ranking Tournament where Jack closed out his 2016 Open event in blistering fashion. Attending with his coach Robert Taaffe the duo were trialling some new methods ahead of the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final in 2 weeks. Jack went all the way to the top of the podium with an incredible run of results. Seeded 1, jack had a bye in round 1. In round 2 he saw off his Belarusian counterpart 15-3 by ’12 point gap’. This led to a 1/4 final match with local French National Athlete which was 12-3 in Woolley’s favour when his opponent was disqualified for 10 infractions. The semi final and finals were an all Spanish Affair when Woolley eased through his semi 9-1, leaving a final with a former European Champion who jack then finished early 10-1.
