Northern Ireland International Poomsae 2015

South Dublin Taekwondo recently had their annual trip to the Northern Ireland International Poomsae [Patterns] Championships in Lisburn, Co. Antrim. The 12 person team was slightly diminished due to many SDTKD members sitting exams, but nonetheless the team who traveled did the club really proud. Head Coach for the day was Jamilah Depakakibo, 2nd Dan Blackbelt who won a bronze medal in a team tournament where she was asked to join 2 ladies from Northern Ireland, Jamailah was joined on the day by her 3 siblings who also came home with silverware. Justin won a gold medal in his team competition, Janella won gold in individual and Jophert won a team gold. Others who competed include Jed & Kim Rena, the due from SDTKD who between them won gold throughout all there entered divisions. Jed won gold in individual, and gold in a 3 man team and gold in a pair with his sister Kim, who was also 1st place in her individual. Leroy Dilandu joined previously noted Jed & Jophert to conclude the trio in the 3 man team who topped the podium, Leroys little brother Leon picked up a silver medal in his 3 man outing with newcomers Sean Byrne & Oisin Murphy, the newcomers also proving successful in their individuals with Sean & Oisin getting 1st & 2nd respectively in the beginner category. Cian Coughlan was awarded a bronze for his 3 man team performance and finally Patrick Worth received a bronze for his outing. This is the 6th rear in a row SDTKD have sent a team to this event which is growing stronger & stronger each year. 350 competitors from around Europe including World Medalists were present and SDTKD were delighted to substantially sponsor the participation of their team with a large contribution towards a team bus to and from the tournament and also any team entry fees covered by the club from recent fundraisers. SDTKD Club Coach Robert Taaffe noted, ‘Technical taekwondo participation has always been an area of the club we like to invest in & support heavily as it assists the development of the fundamentals of taekwondo, it is an event that all can attend regardless of ability and age. The club did us proud up north and the feedback from the parents in attendance was excellent, both on the organisation of an excellent event, and our players having a great team building experience on the journey’.
