ITU Black Belt Grading 2014

Coach Robert Taaffe with Niamh, Anas & Aoibhe

We are delighted to add another 3 Black Belt ranks to our ever growing team of Taekwondo practitioners. Niamh O’Reilly, Aoibhe Thornton and Anas Belmaati were all successful at the recent Irish Taekwondo Union annual grading which transports colour belts to the accolade of holding a Black Belt, oftentimes a martial art stepping stone to a different world and lifestyle lived under the 5 tenants of Taekwondo; courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control & indomitable spirit. Niamh, the junior grade of the trio excelled to achieve her 1st Dan, and both Aoibhe & Anas have now a second stripe on their belt representing their 2nd Dan. All three took part in a rigorous vetting to pass through the SDTKD Club black belt criteria and onerous testing, followed by the ITU Preliminary Black Belt test, and ultimately the actual test, overseen by 7th Dan Jaeung Shin & ITU Grading Panel. It was a proud day for club as noted by coach Taaffe, ‘Aoibhe & Niamh have shown some great determination for this grade and collaborated excellently in the preparations, and Anas has become a focal point of our club with his impeccable manner & enthusiasm for all things positively promoting Taekwondo’
